Highlight on the ARZA Committee
Did you know that the ACC has a committee focused on Israel engagement through ARZA, the Association of Reform Zionists of America? The goal of this committee is to increase the visibility of cantors in the important discussions surrounding Israel, to show our support for the State of Israel, to assist cantors and their congregations in fostering the continued growth of Progressive Judaism in Israel, and to offer cantors additional tools to create more Israel-centered programming in our congregations.
The new $50 charge on your dues statement enables the ACC to become an organizational member of ARZA. This initiative is monumental in its scope and meaning. With the ACC as an organizational member, a true partner with ARZA in its work, the ACC, as the professional organization for Reform Cantors, is proclaiming our commitment to the State of Israel and to supporting the Reform movement in Israel. As ARZA President Josh Weinberg said, it is a sewing together of the bodies of our movement in a ground-breaking way. In addition to the commitment it models, we will gain resources from ARZA such as webinars, curriculum development, inspiring conversations with our counterparts in Israel, and perhaps even an ARZA Cantors trip to Israel, where we could connect with those in Israel who are creating and leading liturgical music in our tradition. If Israel is part of your portfolio in your congregation, and/or if there are additional ways for ARZA to support you in your work, please let me know. Let’s show up to the webinars offered by ARZA, take part in the important conversations surrounding Israel and the Reform movement in Israel, and do all that we can to show that Israel matters to the ACC and each of us in the Conference. Thank you for all that you do.
