The CCPD Presents: Chanting Torah around the Jewish World with Cantor David Berger

ORIGINALLY PRESENTED ON:

January 26, 2016: 03:30pm

As a celebration of Shabbat Shirah - the CCPD presents an exploration of Torah chanting traditions!
Reading Torah is not a Jewish activity - Singing Torah is! In this class we will learn some of the history of ta'amei hamikra - the "trop" that guide us in our song, going back to the Talmud, the Caira Geniza, and other ancient sources, and even reading up close some early manuscripts. Then we'll take a tour around the Torah chanting world by listening to recordings from Jewish communities everywhere. What can we learn about Jewish history, culture, and identity from Torah chanting? Come and find out!

This is the first "See One, Teach One" webinar from the CCPD - participants can ask for the powerpoint slides and other information following the presentation!
