Cantor Jodi Schechtman

Director of Organizational Partnerships

Cantor Jodi Schechtman is celebrating her 25th year at Temple Beth Am in Framingham, Massachusetts, having taken that position immediately following her investiture from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion School of Sacred Music in 1988.  As the first cantor of Temple Beth Am, she has had the privilege of working on all aspects of temple life, but her favorite part of her job is being able to share multiple life cycle events with families, and she has now reached the point in her career where she is officiating at the weddings of her former Bat Mitzvah students and even naming some of their babies!  In 2010, Cantor Schechtman was chosen as the sole Spiritual Leader of her congregation.

Cantor Schechtman has been a member of the Executive Board of the American Conference of Cantors (ACC) for 13 years, having served on the Personnel Committee, as well as chairing the Membership Committee and the Joint Cantorial Placement Commission (JCPC).  In her own region, Cantor Schechtman is the first cantor to serve on the Jewish Cemetery Association of Massachusetts (JCAM), is a member of the New England Board of Cantors (NEBC) and is the liaison between the ACC and the Northeast Council of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ).

A passionate supporter of the ACC, Cantor Schechtman was appointed Director of Organizational Partnerships in 2008 and in that capacity, she represents the ACC as it interacts with the URJ, the CCAR (Central Conference of American Rabbis) and HUC-JIR.

When she is not working in her congregation or for the ACC, Cantor Schechtman is spending time with her husband, Gene, their (amazing) daughter, Madison, their dogs, Lexi & Bon Jovi and their cats, Oliver and Chessie.
